Facebook Celebrates Pride With New Feature That Lets User Express Support for Marriage Equality Why You Change Yours ?

Facebook has launched a tool that lets users show their support of marriage equality. Facebook’s “Celebrate Pride” tool was announced by co-founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg. The tool was launched shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is now considered a fundamentalconstitutional right right guaranteed under the 14th Amendment.
By visiting the “Celebrate Pride” tool on Facebook, you will see a preview of your profile picture with a rainbow filter. If you click “use as profile picture,” then your existing profile photo will be uploaded with the rainbow filter.
Of course in India, gay marriage is a distant dream since our own Supreme Court had ruled on December 11, 2013 , that Section 377 which criminalises homosexual acts was still legal. The Supreme Court of India said courts are not the appropriate authority to strike down Section 377 and it is the Parliament which has to legislate upon the matter. An earlier judgement by the Delhi High Court had deemed Section 377 illegal, giving hope to the LGBT community in India.

As someone pointed out on Facebook, it was strange to see so many people changing their photos because the truth was that the ruling has no impact on India. Certainly a ‘trendy’ social media wave, but one that would do nothing for the LGBT community in our country. Others pointed out that even people don’t know why this feature is added and copying the friends dp because it look cools, actually the rainbow coloured dp shows you support to Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender relations and marriages.
